@El Director – I’m not going anywhere near that phrase (you’ll understand what I mean if you do a search for it)! I would say we have to both keep our chins up despite a fairly lacklustre decade (though anybody who cite trekking through deserts in China as a regular experience like yourself is a superstar in my book). I’m determined “my decade”, as I’m calling it, will be different to the noughties.

@Elaine – you’re right, life’s not just about “achievements”. Wise words I’ll bear in mind for the new decade.

@Joe – I think you & Deb are spot on. I’ve just managed to wriggle out of a meeting which would have involved a 440 mile round trip and said to the guy we can have a conference call instead. I’m finally learning to say “no” and just in the last hour have written to three different blokes I can offer no more input on their proposed business ventures unless they pay. As Jess says so wonderfully, “my website is not called freeconsultancy.com”.

Happy New Year Nadeem!
0.1% is the productivity rating I’d rate most meetings ever achieve. Deb has to sit in on loads of meetings at work and has come up with a theory meetings should be limited to 30 minutes with a written agenda – she believes anything past 30 minutes and she’s probably right.
Don’t be so harsh on yourself, I’ve had similar experiences to you in this industry and so long as you learn from your mistakes it’s still useful experience. If it all comes together this year that’s great, if it doesn’t but you’re still moving in the right direction, don’t worry, be happy

Paul – Happy New Year! Believe me, if I had a choice of going anywhere in the UK, it would certainly be Newcastle. Yep, I certainly hope to catch up with you either up north or next time you’re in the big smoke.

Asadski – I look around my room as I type this and I see pictures of three blokes: Obama, Maradona and Bebeto. Whatever achievements I may have had are minus 9.9% compared to my heros!
